Marawi City hosts multi-sectoral assembly

Marawi City – Some 200 stakeholders from all over the province met May 24 for the multi- sectoral general assembly at Kristal Function Hall, Panggao Saduc, Marawi City.

Rallying behind the theme “Enhancing Sectoral Performance Towards Community Transformation and Development”, the multi-sectoral general assembly aimed to boost community participation through the validation of Lanao del Sur People’s Agenda.

The People’s Agenda was a consolidation of the different sectoral development agenda drafted and validated by each sector during a series of sectoral fora.

These include the Educators Forum, Farmers Forum, Fisherfolks Forum, Muslim Religious Leaders Forum, Women’s Forum, Youth and Young Professionals Forum, Government Employees Forum, and People’s Organization Forum.

The agenda seeks to solve issues on poverty, education, gender equality, maternal and child health, environmental sustainability as well as community and global partnership.

Among the strategies tackled to achieve the agenda include among others: election of responsible, just and trustworthy government officials; improving quality education through literacy programs; conducting capability building seminars on women’s rights; establishment of well-maintained and functional health centers; proper implementation of the Cheaper Medicine Law; fortified protection and preservation of Lake Lanao; implementation of media campaigns on proper waste management and tree planting to combat global warming; and intensification of faith in Allah with the help of the Ulama in order to sustain the above programs.

The general assembly was actively participated by stakeholders from the academe, farmers, fisherfolks, government employees, Muslim religious leaders, people’s organizations, women, youth as well as the young professionals sectors. (Apipa P. Bagumbaran, PIA-Marawi City)
